Adam Gašpar

Acta musealia 2017/1-2:8-27 | DOI: 10.62317/amu.2017.001

The objective of this contribution is to critically assess the research of the period of Urnfield culture (Late Bronze Age) in the area of the White Carpathian Mountains in the context of the landscape as it was then and its utilisation. For this reason natural conditions as they were at that time are outlined and a complex comparison was conducted of archaeological components on both the Moravian and Slovakian sides of the researched region. The number of observed sites is considerably distorted due to different research activities along both sides of the state border. While on the Slovakian side of the region in question there were more archaeologists...

Research of history involves several procedures, which, only in their entirety, provide a certain, more precise, view of the researched topic. Should we exclude the always emotionally biased, and usually rather distorted, simple subjective human memory, or its long-term transfer in the form of a so called tradition, there remain only two valid procedures of gaining knowledge, which are suitable for serious application in historiography. The first area includes a wide range of written resources. Some of these have a direct bearing on definitive historical events; others merely document a period detail from economic, spiritual or social affairs of...

Jaroslav Bartík, Tomáš Chrástek

Acta musealia 2017/1-2:116-133 | DOI: 10.62317/amu.2017.007

In the spring months of the year 1945, the Second World War front moved through the border area of the White Carpathian Mountains. This event can be taken as the beginning of liberation of the South East Moravia from German occupation. Until today, in many places of the White Carpathian Mountains numerous traces of liberation fighting can still be found. Apart from visible terrain relics there are a great number of metallic finds of military nature as well as military equipment, which are known mainly due to the activities of amateur metal detector hunters. Lately, however, we more and more often see excavations by professional archaeologists, this...
